Hello and welcome. I’m Ariel Kroon and I’m an independent scholar who wears a few different hats: I am a researcher, writer, editor, and podcaster. Sometimes I give workshops, guest lectures, or talks, and I have been known to moderate panels.
I currently live and work on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Haudenosaunee, and Anishinaabe peoples; whose land are you on? Find out at native-land.ca
What I’m doing now
I am a cofounder, producer, and host of Solarpunk Presents podcast. Christina De La Rocha, the other cofounder of Solarpunk Presents, was my cohost from the podcast’s beginning in 2022 up until 2026; currently, the podcast is helmed by myself and Aleya Jobson of fastfrwrd.info. For the first seven and a half seasons, SP was mostly an interview podcast, wherein Christina and I would talk to guests working to make a better, more sustainable world. Certain episodes would be discussions between Christina and I, critically analyzing and discussing solarpunk as a genre and a movement. You can check out our Patreon page to learn more.
I am Research Project Coordinator & Writer at the Social Innovation Research Group, a cluster of scholars and students within the Faculty of Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University. This includes (but is not limited to): writing and editing grants, reports, and articles; assisting with research for literature reviews and courses; and providing linguistic expertise where needed; mentoring graduate students in their writing; consulting on and reviewing written documents of all kinds for accuracy in language.
I am a member of the Low Carbon Research Methods Network, a loosely affiliated network of scholars interested in examining how climate change not only stands to alter what we study, but how we do so. I am also Member-at-Large of the Association for Literature, Environment, and Culture in Canada (ALECC), SF Canada, and a part of the Women and Climate speaker database.
