Editing:
There are a few different levels of editing, each specific to describe exactly what you need from me. See the descriptions below to give you an idea of what you might be looking for!
- Structural Editing: The “big picture” edit. Some of the issues I focus on include the strength of your argument or thesis, the clarity of your main point throughout the work, the structural organization of your argument and paragraph order/flow, and questions of who exactly you are writing this piece for.
- Stylistic Editing: Speaking of the audience that your project is aimed at, your word choice and tone will vary quite a bit according to whether you are writing for an academic, professional, adult, youth, or online (or other!) audience. If English is not your first language, this can be incredibly difficult. I can help with concerns like run-on sentences, jargon, and smoothing out your writing so that your work reads professionally.
- Copy Editing: If grammar and spelling are not your forte, this type of editing is for you. In this basic edit, some of the issues that I focus on are run-on sentences, comma placement, semi-colon and colon use, quotation marks, consistency in capitalization, regularity in spelling (US or Canadian), and double-checking proper noun capitalization and spelling.
- Proofreading: An extra set of eyes can be invaluable. When your document is 98% finished, I can provide a fresh look at your work and make sure that every particle is in place.
Whether you are working on an article, a chapter, a conference paper, a paper proposal, a blog post, a web page, or anything where communication of your ideas is vitally important, I can help you put your best (written) foot forward.
